since i'm alone a lot, i have plenty of time to talk to myself, and i'm usually pretty active in doing so :meow:  i noticed that when i talk to myself that i tend to use we, for me and myself, instead of what I feel like would be the most intuitive, I, then that led to further investigation and I remembered of some of the different forms that my self conversations take on :la:

1) sometimes, there is just a vague impression that there's someone else that my thoughts are being directed to, 2) sometimes it's an imaginary situation between me and someone real that i know, 3) and sometimes it's almost a third person impression of how i perceive myself.

1) for the first of the three situations, i tend to use we because I feel like the vague impression of someone else serves mainly to feel like i'm not alone and someone is cooperating with my in my thoughts, 2) for the second situation, i use you because i'm talking to that other person, 3) and the for last situation, I use I, because I'm watching myself talk about my own thoughts and feelings

I also wanted to try to transcribe a self conversation so i could compare it with how i am when i talk to other people, but then i realized just how hard that would be to pull off :XD:

so, i'm curious

questions for y'allemaal!  :dummy:

  • when you talk to yourself, what form does it take?
  • what pronouns do you tend to use when talking to yourself?

I think we should talk more.

I've never really thought about it, but I've experienced the first two forms and maybe the third when trying to figure something out.

You could try wearing a microphone and keeping a recording program open at all times, have it run on startup if you can, and stop the recording only when you recognize that you were talking to yourself.  Then just listen to the end of the recording.  Keep in mind this won't work for recording thoughts so try to forget that you are wearing a headset and try to keep your thoughts vocal.

I generally just refer to the imaginary person as "you" such as "What do you think?"
